Viña Leyda stands out in the latest edtion of Decanter
The latest report has been released by the prestigious British magazine, Decanter, whereby under the section entitled Panel Tasting Results: “South American Whites – Beyond the Big Two”, scores for over 89 wines were listed. On this occasion, Viña Leyda received outstanding results for three of its wines.
Leyda Single Vineyard Neblina Riesling 2015 from the Leyda Valley stood out on this occasion with 92 points, following tasting by three of the magazine’s experts: Anthony Rose, Patricio Tapia, and Daphne Teremetz. The wine was described with the following tasting note:
“Very expressive nose of citrus with pronounced petrol notes. Displays a lean streak of salty, fresh acidity with a nicely dry finish and impressive varietal character”.
Meanwhile, Leyda Single Vineyard Kadún Sauvignon Gris – one of the specialties of Leyda winemaker, Viviana Navarrete – also excelled in this edition, with 91 points and the following tasting note:
“Generous layers of ripe white fruits and spices, with a very long, flinty finish. Nice and refreshing – typical Sauvignon Gris”.
It should be noted that in the report the experts emphasized how, during tastings, Riesling was the variety in Chile that interested them most, and how they had tasted delicious and refreshing wines originating from the San Antonio Valley. This is reflected in outstanding scores for the wines of Viña Leyda which, within twenty years, has managed to position itself as the most acclaimed coastal winery in Chile.
